Game and School 8/31

.
Hopefully the captains have let everyone know what to wear to school on Monday.

Do not bring your megaphones to school. We will use them at the game on Friday. I will keep them in my car. Don't forget your poms and non-competition cheer shoes. Meet out at the field ASAP after school to warm up and prepare for the game. The game starts at 4pm.

Fallon and Juliana will be at Gold squad practice on Monday, so some Varsity cheerleaders will cheer with us. I am excited to have cheerleaders for the JV Football squad for the first time in 6 years.

Xtreme schedule

We have finalized the schedule that will begin on September 7th:

Monday nights at the school 5:30-7:30pm.
Tuesday nights at your scheduled time at Xtreme, see post below.
Wednesday night at Xtreme 8 to 9pm for mat rental. Arrive at 7:45 pm to stretch quietly in the corner so we are ready to go at 8.
Thursdays after school until 6pm.

The cost at Xtreme will be $80 per girl monthly September through December. Then we will go back to a smaller fee at that point for the remainder of the season for once/week tumbling. I had hoped that we could practice at the Broomfield location on Wednesdays, but staff was not available at that time and location. So, all Xtreme classes will be held at the Lafayette location.

FOR NEXT WEEK, August 31st to Sept 4th this is the full schedule:

Monday, August 31st: Game directly following school vs. Bear Creek (no practice)
Tuesday, Sept 1st: New Xtreme practice schedule, see earlier post for your time
Wednesday, Sept 2nd: Added Labor Day Parade practice after school until 4:30.
Thursday, Sept 3rd: No after school practice this week. Meet at Xtreme at 6:45pm to 8:30pm
Friday, Sept 4th: Game directly following school vs. Thomas Jefferson.

The Wednesday and Thursday practices are changed this week due to Varsity having a game on Thursday, so they need to swap practice times at Xtreme.

I know that this is a convoluted schedule, but hopefully once we get going, it will fall into place.

Updated Scrimmage Day Friday 8-29

Yesterday we discovered that the Freshmen football team is playing their scrimmage at Monarch's field. The JV is still scheduled at Centaurus. So, we will only be there for the JV game at 5:30 and to watch the varsity game at 6:30 until 7. Yesterday, I told the girls to be there by 5:15, but upon further thought, we need to arrive a little earlier.

ALL JV CHEERLEADERS NEED TO BE AT SPANGENBERG FIELD (at Centaurus HS) BY 5pm to stretch and get prepared.

Scrimmage Day this Friday at school

So, don't forget the scrimmage is this Friday, August 28th, at Spangenberg Field at Centaurus High School.

At school on Friday, wear your "COYOTES" vegas gold shirt with jeans or jean shorts, or capris, and any black, white, or brown shoes that you have. (Varsity is doing the same).

Then we will dress in our game uniforms for the game that evening with white shoes and gold bows, no undershells. Arrive by 4:45, we will watch some of the freshmen football scrimmage from the stands, then warm up and cheer a little for the JV scrimmage. Then the varsity scrimmage begins at 6:30, and we will stay to watch some of that. We will be ready to leave by 7pm.

Monarch K8 Back to School Picnic

Monarch K8 has asked us to come and perform at the back to school picnic.

I told the girls today to be at the school at 5:30 this Wednesday, August 26th to practice for 30 minutes before heading over to the middle school. They need to wear their paw print polos and the black skort with white trim. Do not wear competition shoes, as we will be performing on grass. Wear your gold bows as well.

New Tumbling Class Format at Xtreme

I am happy to inform you that we have figured out the new tumbling format!

This week will remain the same, August 24th to 30th:

Tues 7:30 - 9:00 for all, Thur 7:30 - 9:00 varsity, and Thursday optional 7 - 8 JV.

Then on Tues, Sept 1st the format changes. This is the start of the new billing cycle. I am negotiating a timeslot for JV to practice on Wednesdays for 1 hour of mat rental. The total monthly cost should be about $80. I will let you know when that is finalized. This extra class will only be held through our competition season which ends mid December, (3 months). Then we will return to Tuesday nights only. At that time, we can look into other options for optional additional tumbling instruction to get these girls prepared to make varsity next season.

On Tuesdays for the remainder of the season, we will split the teams into 4 groups. These groups are split based on skill level, and varsity and JV are comingled. Coach Mark, the owner of Xtreme, assessed all of the girls last week and divided them into these 4 groups. These groups may change as someone improves to be with the next level up. Some changes may happen pretty quickly. It currently looks like this:

Group one: 6 - 7pm

Juliana, Fallon, Alex, Josie, Reilly, Hannah, Katie O., Tori R. & Kaitlin

Group two: 7 - 8pm

Sam, Bridgette, Bailee, Kelsey, Natalie, Michelle, Lily, Rachel & Cortnee

Group three: 8 - 9pm

Tatiana, Emily, Ashton, Nicole, Katie D., Ally, Torrey C. & Erin

Group four: also 8 - 9pm

Teal, Ashlyn, Randi, Izzy, Alexa, Sarah, Melissa & Taylor

(group 3 & 4 will have two instructors from 8 to 9)

It is EVERYONE'S goal to make improvements in their tumbling and get some new skills for the routine. I would love to have full squad backhandsprings and roundoff/Backhandsprings by JV invitional in December.

For those who are pracicing with Gold squad, Thursday nights will change time on Sept 3rd!! They will practice from 7:00 - 8:30pm!!! This will allow girls to get home earlier :-)

Please let me know if you have any questions. I believe overall, these will be positive changes and I look forward to seeing some great new skills emerge from the girls! Thanks for your input and support.

Coach Cathy and Coach Lucie

p.s. Great job at the pep rally Friday!!! We were very impressed with you ladies :-)

JV Pizza Party at Kaitlin's House

Mary Ann and Kaitlin Weidmann have offered to hold a pizza party at their home for the JV Cheerleaders.

The party is from 5-7pm on Saturday, August 29th.

The address is 804 W. Mulberry Street in Louisville. Phone 303-665-2155.

We will be making Survival Kits and each girl will be decorating a surprise item.

I hope that everyone can attend because these are individual items that need to be decorated by each girl. We will be using these items at the games.

Labor Day Parade

Every year the Monarch Cheerleaders march in the Louisville Labor Day Parade down Main Street, and perform in front of the grandstands. This year both Varsity and JV will be marching in the parade together. I know that this is short notice, so if you have made other plans for Labor Day just let me know.

If you are participating, the parade begins marching at 10am, so we will probably meet at around 9am to warm up and practice for the performance. Stay tuned because that time may change after I decide how many people are participating and what the performance will be. Details will follow about the meeting location and uniforms.

Let me know whether or not you will be available for the parade on Labor Day.

Pep Rally

The pep rally is scheduled for 2:15 pm this Friday, August 21. Parents are welcome to attend. Parents have in previous years found a spot together on the right hand side of the gym as you enter from the main entrance, in the center portion of those stands. Be there by about 2pm, so that you can get into the gym and find a seat before the students file in.

You obviously do not need to attend, but if you would like to you are welcome. JV and varsity will be performing together on the basketball court. But you need to be prepared to yell with them in the cheer. Just follow their lead and cheer with them.

GO COYOTES!!!

First week of School Schedule

Pep Rally this Friday! Wear your game uniforms with no liner to school on Friday. I will let everyone know when I find out what time the pep rally is scheduled for on Friday. Parents are welcome to attend.

Mandatory Practices and Captains Vote

Mandatory practices begin on Monday. Be sure that you have completed your athletic registration before practice begins. Practice on Monday is from 1 to 5 pm.

NEW INFORMATION: Please wear your game uniform to practice on Monday with the bow and no liner. We need to take a photo for the website. Then bring your vegas gold "COYOTES" shirt and "MOHI" shorts to change into.

We will practice for the pep rally with varsity and then for our football games.

CAPTAINS: We will also vote for the two cheerleaders who will be captains for the rest of the season on Monday. If you are planning to try for captain, be prepared to sell yourself to your team. You will stand up in front of your team and tell them why they should vote for you. The voting is by closed private ballots. Everyone will choose their two best candidates. Once the season begins, the captains will be very busy with scheduling poster making, letting everyone know what is being worn to school, talking with the coach after practices about the season, etc. You will need to be very organized and on-task and able to take charge of the warm-up time and practicing of the cheers. It is not an easy job. So keep that in mind when deciding if you would like to try for the position.

Our regular shedule begins on Tuesday August 18th.

Monday at the school from 5:30 to 7:30.
Xtreme Altitude is on Tuesday nights from 7:30 to 9.
Thursdays At the school from 3:15 to 6.

Football Schedule Changes

So, the football schedule has changed for this season. Most of the changes are in the first few games. See the football schedule post below. I have made the changes.

Sorry about the wrong schedule, I had the original schedule that was posted in the spring. Apparently over the summer it has changed.

Rob Barke leaving Xtreme Altitude Gym

So, many of you have heard that Rob will be leaving the gym after Thursday's practice. So, if you would like to come say goodbye, everyone is welcome to come to the gym Thursday evening at 8:30pm for a goodbye party.

Many of the varsity girls, and some JV members have known him for years. Some of the JV did not have the priveledge to get to know him. He is a very charasmatic and enthusiastic coach that was a great asset to Monarch Cheer and he will be missed.

As for moving forward, Cathy and I are meeting with the owner of the gym to discuss the new coach to fill that role, as well as Monarch practice schedules for the fall. Many of you are enrolled in the extra tumbling class on Thursday nights. This class will probably end at the end of the month, but I am talking to the gym about other options. (our practices at the school will be on Thursday afternoons.)

We can discuss at the parent meeting what the plan will be for future tumbling practices. I would say that the Tuesday night classes will remain the same.

Cheer Bags

The link below shows the cheer bags we are ordering. It will be 10 x 10 x 23, Black with a black strap, and Monarch Cheer embroidered on one side and the girl's names on the end. With embroidery, the total per bag is $52. This is the same bag they ordered last year.

http://www.sportwaves.com/selectgym.htm

Varsity members are required to have the bags, but they are optional for JV. They are sturdy and usually will last all four years if treated properly.

If you are interested in purchasing a bag, I need to know by this Sunday.

Checks will be due at the parent meeting, made out to "Monarch High School", as the full payment will be made from the cheer accounts. (The $100 that you are depositing in your cheer accounts at the parent meeting should cover the bag. Just be sure to put another $50 at a later date before competition fees become due in October.)

Please email me if you would like to order a bag, and the name exactly as you would like it to appear on the bag. (first names only).

Monarch Parent Meeting - Updated 8/18

The cheerleader parent meeting for both Varsity and JV has been scheduled for 6pm on August 19th in the cafeteria. Every cheerleader and at least one parent needs to attend.

The signed cheer contracts will be due at that time, (most of you have already turned these in), as well as the order form for cheer gear.
This would be a good time to get checks to Tammi Warman for your cheer accounts. Make checks to "Monarch High School" with "Cheerleading" in the memo line. This should include the balance of your uniform order as well as an additional $100 for ongoing expenses.

Tami Warman has sent out your cheer account balances via email. Please be prepared to pay that balance plus the $100 at the parent meeting if possible. The $100 is due by the end of the month.

Athletic Registration

This week registration begins at the High School. Everyone involved in a sport at Monarch needs to also complete an Athletic Registration Packet. For fall sports, like cheerleading, this registration needs to be completed and turned in to the athletic office by August 14th, before the first mandatory practice on August 17th. The Athletic office hours are:

9 to noon and 1 to 3 M-F beginning on Wednesday, August 5th.

Please print the forms from the website (see the "Monarch Athletic Registration" link below), and turn them in during office hours.

The athletic office secretary, Elisabeth, has asked that I return the physical forms to the girls, and they need to turn them in with their registration packet. So, I will return the Physicals to the girls at practice on Tuesday morning.

Learn Your Cheers Test Schedule

There are 30 cheers on the video, and many others that are not on the video. Please get with your cheer sisters and learn your cheers. On each test day you will be tested on the new cheers for the day as well as a spot test on previous material. If you do not know a cheer, you will need to give me 10 pushups per cheer, and stay after practice on another day to show me that you have learned those cheers.

(Note this schedule has been relaxed a little because of cheer sisters being hard to reach or out of town.)

Here is the test schedule: (Page number refers to page on the video)

Tuesday, August 4: Page 2 (6 cheers)
Thursday, August 6: Pages 3 (6 cheers)
Thursday, August 13: Page 4 (6 cheers)
Retest, August 17th: Page 4 (6 cheers)
Thursday, August 20: Page 5 (6 cheers)
Thursday, August 27: All cheers from video and those not on video (This is your game readiness tryout)

Everyone will need to pass every cheer before they will be allowed to cheer at a game. I do not expect perfection, but everyone needs to know all of the cheers. The first game is August 31st. (Not including the scrimmage on August 28th)
