Sick policy

.

We have a confirmed case of H1N1 "Swine Flu" amongst the JV cheerleaders. There is no need to panic. This flu is prevalent in the community as a whole at this point, and is no worse than the "regular" flu in most cases. However, everyone needs to take precautions, and be vigilant about washing hands and not sharing beverages, water bottles, or food.

If you have a sore throat or fever, please let me know via text, email, or phone, and do not come to practice or activities. If you miss school, you cannot attend practice. A student must attend at least 3 hours and 45 minutes of school to be eligible for an activity. This includes games and practice at Xtreme if you are sick.

I have included a link to the Boulder Valley School system flu prevention website. On this website, you will find links to the CDC and other helpful information about flu prevention.

Junior Cheer Clinic Sept 18

For those who would like to help out at the Junior CHeer Clinic, varsity is arriving at the gym at 8 am and wearing their game uniforms. The event runs until 3pm, just in time to meet for our game in the afternoon.

The cheer clinic is optional, and only Varsity is splitting the proceeds because they need to pay for nationals, but you are welcome to go help out. They are expecting over 100 young girls to attend this year, so they can use your help. I will be there most of the day as well. Do not forget to bring a lunch and drink.

Battle at the Capitol

.

So, our first competition is only about a month away, October 24th, and we need to get our registration forms turned in by the deadline which is fast approaching. I handed the forms out to the girls at practice Wednesday night at Xtreme. Please have those back to me by this Friday at the game. I need to mail all of the forms by Monday. If you need to print another copy of the form, follow the link to www.midwestspirit.com, and go to the Battle at the Capitol, and forms.

Also, make sure that you have at least $38 in your cheer account to cover the registration fee.Tami sent out statements last week. If you need to add money, please get a check to Tami or Tatiana made out to MHS with Cheerleading in the memo line.
(Just FYI: This is the most expensive competition that we will attend. UCA is $27 per girl and the JV invitational is $40 for the entire team. So the total for all competitions is about $68. Spectators will need to pay at the door, and that cost is different for every competition.)

Monarch Gold Squad SpiritFest Grand Champions!!!

.
Congratulations to the Monarch High School Gold Squad competition team including 5 of our JV cheerleaders. They rocked the house in the pouring rain, and nailed every stunt for first place in the Varsity 5A cheer division at Elitch Gardens. They won a team trophy, a giant stuffed bear, "Grand Champion" sweatshirts, and season passes to Elitch Gardens for next year. NICE!!

Let's keep up the winning streak. The Black squad will start practicing our competition routine this week. I cannot wait to get going with that.

GO MONARCH!!!

ELITCH COMPETITION

Varsity and Gold squad competitors are meeting at 1:30 at Monarch HS to go to Elitches. They will just go straight to warm up for their competition time of 4:35pm. They have decided to wear their competition uniform as it will be a little chilly on Saturday. It shows rainy and a high of 57 degrees.

For those that are competing, meet at the school no later then 1:30pm to carpool. You do not need the special Elitch competition ticket to get in. Just get into the park however you had planned, a season pass, or discount ticket, or buy full price at the entrance.

So, for JV girls who are NOT competing, you are welcome to go to Elitches whenever you want with your family, (please, no dropping girls off alone at the Park). I did not get much response about JV carpooling, but Varsity has enough drivers to get everyone there and back. So you are welcome to come to the school and carpool over at 1:30pm. I will not be at the park until after 2pm, so if you are going early with your family, let me know so we are not looking for you at the school. Then meet us at the old Batman Theater at 2:45pm to check in with us.

Now for outfits for those NOT competing: it will be a little chilly for polos and skorts. So, let's wear the polos with jeans. You will probably want to bring an umberella or poncho. I am worried about the girls losing their very nice and expensive new cheer jackets, but bring a jacket of some kind. If you bought one of the new ones from Nikki, that would be perfect.

Text me with questions.

Sorry about tonight at the Game

.
OKay, so I wanted to let everyone know that I was fine. I had to head to the hospital for some emergency care, but 11 stitches and some painkillers later, I feel fine. It was just a crazy thing. I was spotting a stunt, and had to catch the flyer, and my face got in the way. I am going to have a pretty good shiner that I can be proud of.

I hope that you enjoyed the game in my absence. I am so sorry that I missed it.

I will see everyone tomorrow for Elitches.

Practice this week September 7

.

AHH, the best laid plans.

I already need to change the schedule for this week. We have 2 varsity members who unexpectedly will need to be out of the Elitches competition this Saturday. Therefore 2 or 3 JV members will need to attend varsity practice this week to prepare to compete with Gold squad this Saturday.

Juliana and Fallon were already planning to compete. Now Tatiana, Reilly, and Tori, will be attending varsity practice this week as well.

Therefore, it will not be worthwhile to hold regular JV practices this week. So here is the schedule for this week only:

Tuesday: Gold squad will be practicing from 7 to 9, so for those not listed above, please come to the early practice from 6 to 7 at Xtreme for tumbling.

Wednesday: no Practice at all, JV mat rental is cancelled this week due to missing 5 girls.

Thursday: Practice after school in cafeteria 3:15 to 4:30 (NOTE THE SHORTENED PRACTICE)

Friday: meet at Spangenberg Field at 5:30 for Varsity game. (wear jerseys and jeans or capris, we will sit together in the stands and talk about football and watch and cheer with the varsity cheer squad.)

Saturday: Elitches SpiritFest. (Wear Polos and Skorts to Elitches. Varsity is also competing in the polos), (Time TBD) ALL JV NEED TO ATTEND THIS COMPETITION.

Special note: the cheer bags are in! Thank you Barb Silk! I will bring them to tumbling on Tuesday.

Practice Schedule for Post-Competition Season

.

So that everyone can begin planning for their winter schedules, here is the cheer schedule:

Regular Practice Schedule Through December 12, (competition season):
Mondays: 5:30 to 7:30pm at school
Tuesdays: Xtreme tumbling per your ability grouping
Wednesdays: mat rental at Xtreme for competition routine practice 8 to 9 (arrive 7:45)
Thursdays: 3:15 to 6pm at school

Begining in January and thru February, (basketball season):
Mondays: optional conditioning 3:15 to 4:30 at school, see below *
Tuesdays: Xtreme tumbling per your ability grouping
Thursdays: at school 3:15 to 6

NON-MANDATORY: For those interested, I will try to set up some ability-specific additional tumbling classes. Also, this may be a good time to get some private lessons at Xtreme or Cheer Central, if you are interested, to get ready for tryouts in April.

* Also optional, I am planning to hold conditioning class on Mondays with running and workouts in the weight room beginning in January. This will probably be after school on Mondays until 4:30. This class is for working towards the goal of these girls being ready for tryouts in the spring.

JV and Freshmen Basketball games are on Tuesdays, Fridays, and a couple of Wednesdays in January and February. We will cheer for some girls and some boys games for each age group. I will not schedule Tuesdays so that we do not miss our tumbling practice. So most games will be on Fridays. I will post the schedule as soon as I know it.

Then we take a break in March and tryouts begin again next April.

Labor Day Parade

.

Meet at the basket ball courts behind Louisville Middle School by 9am on Monday.

The parade begins promptly at 10am, and we are the 21st to go, I believe.
We will march down mainstreet, and stop for a performance in front of the grandstands, (this is what we practiced on Wednesday). Then we continue to march to the Elks, then go to awards at the Louisville Community Park afterwards.

The girls can be picked up around noon at Community Park.

Wear black polo outfits with gold bows, and bring poms.
